出嫁辞乡国 由来此别难 圣恩愁远道 行路泣相看 |
Resigned to be married off from my home, Up to now this has been especially hard. Imperial favor was a long and constant worry. These tears of my journey -- look at me now. |

In this desert fortress, I must look exhausted. In this remote corner, my makeup is a mess. Your servant's heart, where will it come to rest? On some later day, I may gaze upon Chang'an. |

No one seems to know anything about Princess Yifen. She is obviously writing to an equal. You don't tell a stupid man that you are out of make up and look like hell. It was common to leave poems inscribed in relay stations. Bai Juyi and Yuan Zhen were famous for leaving each other poems in this way.
