留弟郢不得送之江南

Unable to linger in Ying, I accompany those going to Jiangnan

刚有下水船
白日留不得
老人独自归
苦泪满眼黑

Our boat's about to go downriver.
Still broad daylight but I cannot stay.
An old man once returned here alone,
Bitter tears darkening his vision.

-- 孟郊

废话

Ying is one of the capital's of ancient Chu. The old man is the exiled king of Chu. In Tang times, he was a symbol of the unstable times, the displaced emperor's, the unending rebellions. A symbol of pathos among the cultured.
