乱离
A Rash Departure
Under Heaven, no faithful swords. Upon these plains, many bruised and broken. Full of sorrow, Magistrate Lu with Honest spirit opposed this rebellion. |
Zi Lu came to a bloody end. Ji Kang is still mocked today. For you, my every grief is Like a sword, piercing my four limbs. |
The broken wings will not fly again. The waters flown away will not return. The upright pine has lost its very crown Leaving only broken reeds for us to lean upon. |
Mornings, like a spring day's joy. Evenings, like an autumn's sadness. My tears fall without measure Echoing this endless drizzling rain. |
Too much resentment leads to fever. Too much hatred, to insanity. Blossoms of resentment have no limit. Waters of hatred have no final shore. |
But hatred and resentment ride my heart Into vast distances of separation. |
废话
I am guessing that this Lu (陆) is the same Lu who Meng Jiao called master and traded poems with. Lu's title here Dafu (大夫) is an unhelpfully vague official title which also can be read Daifu or Doctor. I made him a magistrate on a guess. I am guessing also that he was only a big man in the West, where Meng Jiao knew him, as he shows up as neither general nor official in the histories, so far as I can tell. But then, I'm as ignorant as a swan. All I can really know is that Lu Da(i)fu died a violent, unjust death and Meng Jiao misses him very much.
