仙教生为门 仙宗静为根 持心若妄求 服食安足论 |
Immortal teaching is the gate to life. Immortal practice is the root of peace. Grasp the mind as presumptuous thoughts appear, Life's necessities are peacefully satisfied. |

铲惑有灵药 饵真成本源 自当出尘网 驭凤登昆仑 |
Its magic medicine roots out confusion. Taking in reality, you reach the origin. Naturally, you escape the world's net And ride the phoenix to the immortal abode. |

This poem comes from early in Meng Jiao's life. It is either a young man's poem or the poem of an older man who goes into Daoist reclusion. And we know that Meng Jiao never did the latter. He died, suddenly, going from one official appointment to the next.
