妾恨比斑竹 下盘烦冤根 有笋未出土 中已含泪痕 |
I hate this spotted bamboo. It coils about the root of my resentment. There are shoots, not yet emerging, That bear the scars of my falling tears. |

This poem is inspired by the same story as Sister-Queens' Lament. It is also the second time Meng Jiao has written in a woman's voice. It shows that his empathy and sympathy extend beyond his own experience and the mores of his time.
