宿湖中

Spending the Night on the Lake

水天向晚碧沉沉
树影霞光重叠深
浸月冷波千顷练
苞霜新橘万株金

Eveningwards and heaven and lake dark blue.
Rosy light layers deep the long tree shadows.
A thousand cold billows rise to immerse the moon.
Frost on new orange buds, like a forest of gold.

幸无案牍何妨醉
纵有笙歌不废吟
十只画船何处宿
洞庭山脚太湖心

Fortunate to have no work, I am free to drink.
Even though there is music, I won't bother to sing.
Ten painted boats here. So where will I sleep.
At the foot of the mountains far out on the lake.

-- 白居易

废话

It is 825. Bai Juyi is living in Luoyang with a big income and no work to do. So he is out on some ornamental lake in the hills, drinking and listening to the music of other parties who float around on painted boats. Tough life. But soon he will be made Governor of Suzhou and will have to work long, hard hours for the first time in his life.
