Stone Bowl Mountain Brushwork
王家山水画图中 意思都卢粉墨容 今日忽登虚境望 步摇冠翠一千峰 |
My prince lives in a landscape painting where the meaning lies in the delicate black ink. Today, we climbed up to look out beyond the border And a thousand peaks were crowned with sparkling jade. |

Perhaps Wei Gao's court is below Stone Bowl Mountain. This is the second time Xue Tao has mentioned this peak. It may be close enough for her to ride a horse to the top for a morning's outing. The mountains in China tend to run east to west. From Chengdu, the border passed into the mountains northwest of present day Sichuan, toward Tibet if you went far enough. The jade prized by the Chinese, by the way, was white, like the skin of a woman.
